😋 Podi Ragi Idli 😋
Such a breezy recipe and kid’s friendly, apt for their lunch box 🍱. ▪️Inclusion of a few ingredients while sautéing, completely enhances the flavor and aroma of the idlis.
Additional benefit of this recipe is it’s healthy as it’s made of Ragi/finger millet idlis. For the Ragi/finger millet idlis recipe, click here
This Gluten-free recipe can be converted to Vegan friendly by replacing the ghee with vegan butter.
You can use the same process with normal idlis, or Karuppu Kavuni/Black Rice Idli (any idlis) and make Podi idlis.
Here, I made mini idlis. You can prepare regular-sized idli and cut them into small chunks and use it for Podi idlis.
Kids who are fussy about eating idlis, wouldn’t mind eating this one as it’s utterly delicious.

Ingredients-
Ragi Idli – 18 mini idlis
Idli podi/Gun powder- as required
Sugar – as required
Gingelly oil – as required
Ghee/Vegan Butter – 2 tbsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Sliced onion – 1/2 onion
Salt -as required
Coriander leaves – as required
Instructions-
- Steam ragi idlis and demould it after it cools down.
- Mix gun powder, sugar, and gingelly oil. Apply this generously on idlis and keep it aside
- Take a pan with ghee, sauté curry leaves🌿 and sliced onions 🧅with salt for a couple of minutes or till it becomes translucent.
- Add some sugar and mix well.
- Then add fresh coriander leaves and generously drizzle gun powder.
- Now add the gun powder smeared mini ragi idlis and coat the onion mixture evenly on the idlis.
- Finally garnish with coriander leaves and transfer to a serving plate.
- Adding Ghee, Onion, and sugar is a must to get tasty podi idlis. Do not miss these ingredients.
